well i've decided to steer away from serious topics for a while.
the other day when rhonda and i were trying to think of a cheap resturant, we started wishing there was a "lonely planet kingston" wouldn't that be great?? hahaha. part of me wants to make one, but it would be pretty shotty.
we hired a new girl at our pittsburgh site in our department. well knickers did, i wasn't involved. she's a writer. she seems really nice and is young (32) too, knickers told me julie is older than you so you're still our baby. its really interesting because she has all these questions about the company and comes to me to explain them. i like it, for the first time at work i feel like a grown-up who's experienced and knowledgable instead of some young kid who no one pays attention to.
i like that my hair has grown long enough that it flies out my open window as i drive through the country on my way home from work.
i went to value village today and picked up some clothes that actually FIT me. yay! i'm pretty psyched about that. i cringed as i spent the money but i really like my purchases and i do feel justify in the fact that my 11 items cost approximately the same as 3 shirts at a normal store. plus, i'm set for a little while now. i'm pleased that value village is moving into the old walmart. it seems a little ironic, thrift store replacing loathed-corporate-take-over store front. on the other hand, value village is kind of the walmart of thrift stores. in my first interview the lady told me that their goal was to be "the largest thrift department store IN THE WORLD".
i think my nose ring is starting to get one of those little bumps that some times happen. what's the deal with that? does anyone know how to approach such a thing? joel... dess has had her nose pierced for a long time. can you ask her please?
there. that's it. i'm pleased with this entry. by the way, i'm good. my girls gots my back...
oh crap, to my dismay i've forgotten my beloved book at work. i had a great quote to share out of it, oh well, i'll save it for tomorrow. i guess i'll close with this instead...
there's one thing i want to say, so i'll be brave
you were what i wanted i gave what i gave
i'm not sorry i met you
i'm not sorry its over
i'm not sorry there's nothing to say

i think that's little saigon or something. saigon delight is beside the bus stop on bagot & on division. but you're totally right, cheap AND good.
i miss you :)
don't play with the nosering, whatever you do. pretend the bump doesn't exist. when I had my tongue pierced, I noticed I was starting to get a bump (it's scar tissue) and the realization made me play with the piercing more, and that made the scar expand. I still have a bumpy little ring of scar tissue on my tongue.
DON'T PLAY WITH IT.
i'll try my best. my main concern is that i probably have TWICE the scaring as normal people since i got my nose pierced twice in 7 weeks remember? ya. that's made it worse.
funny. if you'd seen me in the chapters a couple of weeks ago, you'd have found me looking for a lonely planet saskatchewan. no luck though. ha!
lonely planet saskatchewan. hahaha. you know... you should get lonely planet canada, it exists, and since you guys are like traveling gypsies it may come in handy.
how are getting settled? have you moved in your new castle yet?
Hey Les,
I've been out of the loop for a bit and am just now catching up on pspd and noticed your question. I'll ask Dess the next time i see her (i'm at work now and she's out driving). I don't know anything about bumps. Although you've already been given some advice on it i'll see what Dess has to say.
I still find pspd to be funny and it's an amusing change from my normal pace. The ships returned from Haiti on the weekend, so my life is in for some more chaos. It's awesome to hear that you are going on a mission trip to Kenya. That sounds to cool. Dess would love to go to South Africa some day. Who knows where we'll go though.
Well, i just wanted to let you know that i'm still checking in on your blog.
joel
ya, check with her on that for me.
i'm getting nervous about kenya joel. but its gonna be ok right? i know it's the experience of a life-time, but worries about money, vaccines, flights and whether i'm off on this big adventure alone is plaguing my mind. but i guess its time to put faith and trust in action.
Hey Les,
I understand your anxieties about your upcoming mission trip. To me, the toughest issue would be going alone! That'd be such a big deal going somewhere completely new and not having someone with you. It sounds like the mission you are getting involved in will do alot of the logistics of picking you up, etc. which is cool. I guess it's like you say, a faith thing. It takes a lot for us to step out into whatever it is that God has for us. I know that he'll see you through with all the stuff that will come your way.
I actually know 6 people who are in Kenya now doing a medical mission. They are a group called the "Dawn Treaders". I've got an email from them about who they are and what they are going to be doing in Kenya if you are interested in finding out about it. They are all ex-Friend Ships crewmembers who have gotten together to do other medical missions.
I think your courage to get involved in this mission is outstanding. Don't let anything stop you from accomplishing what you set out to do.
About your nose bump, Dess says that as long as it isn't red or hurting it should be fine. She has a bump on her nose, but it's not noticeable. She figures it's the whole scar tissue deal. Although her piercing is in the cartilege, which they don't usually do anymore. I guess she got it done so long ago that it was still acceptable back then.
I don't know if Carolyn told you about her "Adventures in Nose Piercing" with Dess while they were here on vacation, but it's a story worth hearing. Ask Mom about it sometime.
About Kenya, all i can think is that Jo is a great encourager and i'm sure she'd have wise words and a prayer to go with it, but all i've gotta say is that you are never alone and that yes, it will all be okay. In fact, i think it'll be great!
peace,
joel
thanks joel. your message almost made me start to cry in my cube. i'll indeed tell you more about it. sometime. i knew this trip was going to stretch my faith, just didn't expect it to stretch me immediately. thanks again.
